Lucas danced on the side stage, enjoying the music and the freedom. It had been a pretty quiet night so far. That was the way he liked it, even at the expense of getting tips. He didnât need that much money to live at home with his parents. Sure, he liked vinyl records of classical music and he was saving up for a car, but none of that was completely necessary.
He looked at Elijah as often as possible, a new smile lighting his face every time he looked at him. Seeing Elijah in action made him feel good. He had misunderstood him for so long. Now his harsh exterior made more sense. He actually liked it now that heâd learned how soft Elijah could be underneath.
Elijah was always smiling at the customers, but Lucas never saw him give a genuine smile except when he looked at him. He loved being able to do that to Elijah. He was so lucky that things were happening between them.
When he saw a bachelorette group came in, Lucas braced himself. He was glad to be on the side stage, where he wouldnât have to interact with them. That group was different from most of the groups that came here. They were there more to have a good time with their friends than to actually ogle the dancers. That meant they would be less easy to control.
Sometimes these groups were overly rambunctious. Lucas never knew what to do when they got a little too grabby with him, or when the bride insisted she had to have one last fling before getting married. One bride had been downright pushy about him sleeping with her. Lucas hoped that marriage hadnât actually happened. He felt terrible for the husband.
From his vantage point, he could see Ace and Gabriel giving each other loving glances. Owen and Cooper did the same. The looks would be imperceptible to the customers, who would never suspect the strippers of being gay and dating each other. To him, they were obvious.
Could he and Elijah ever be like that? It was too soon to think about it. This could still end easily, yet he couldnât restrain himself from getting his hopes up. He wanted to be like that with Elijah. There was no one else here that he could see himself with.
He watched as Elijah went up to the bachelorette group. He couldnât hear them from here, but he could see those subtle changes on Elijahâs face. Something they were saying wasnât pleasing him. He persisted anyway⦠but what was he talking about? If they didnât want a lap dance, he should be leaving.
Lucas didnât want to stare, so he glanced away. He saw Cooper watching Elijah, and noticed how he frowned. Lucas looked back at the group. Elijah was gone.
When the song came to an end, Lucas got down and went over to the change room to grab some more clothes. He would need to strip them off again in a few minutes when he was on the main stage.
